Out with the old, in with the new. Well, when this cliche' is used we can always visit our memories. Lakehurst was the mecca of
four cities; North Chicago, Waukegan, Zion, and Gurnee. You knew you were always going to bump into someone you knew.
The Gyros', Hot Dog On A stick, JcPenny's, Wieboldts, Carson's, Claire's, Tom McCann. The list is endless but a smile always
appear when we think of all the fun times had there. Bye Lakehurst, you will forever live on in our memories, and how sweet they
are.

Those awesome fries at Orange Julius. My mom, sister and I ate at the restaurant in J.C. Penney's everytime we shopped there.
I was the Easter Bunny in the mall one year.

I remember Mayor Robert Sabonjian telling my mom that if a mall came here it would be the downfall of "Downtown Waukegan"
shopping as we know it... all the stores would be forced to shut down the city would be in ruin................... The Mall is gone. RIP
Dear Mayor

I must have a thousand stories/memories on this mall.I have to say it was a very sad day when Lakehurst Mall closed for good.I
remember I used to take the bus from Zion to the mall in the mid 80's,and I could easily spend 8 hours with my buddies walking
around and hanging out.I used to love to go to the ITALIAN WAY resturaunt. They had the best food. Also a good friend of
mine,Kim used to work there. When I needed shoes I would go to the footlocker store, man I loved that store.Remember the
MERRY GO ROUND STORE,and CHESS KING? Well I just wanted to share a few words. They may have tore down this great
mall, but no one could ever erase all those great memories that I will always keep in my mind. Thank you Lakehurst Mall, you will
be greatly missed by me and countless others:)

When I finally got my brand new camero when I was in the Navy stationed at NAS Glenview in 1975, I used to cruise down to
Lakehurst Mall after work and on the weekends. I found it by accident just driving down a road not knowing whats what in
chicagoland. Sad such a grand mall would close for it seemed to be a very well growing and developing areas that was new and
modern back then. Great site and bring back lots of fond memories and feelings. Thanks for the time and effort invested into
making this documentation possible.

I remember the Cinnabon. My dad always bought me and him a Cinnabon while my mom shopped. I got my ears pierced at that
mall too. My mom and dad used to take me and my sister and brother there every weekend.

You do not have the Plum Tree listed...that store was one of the first to open at Lakehurst and one of the last to close! I worked
there thru high school and had great memories of Phil, the owner! Demolition of Lakehurst was just the ceiling on the
deterioration of a once thriving community. Maybe the reinventng of this area will bring a much needed re-birth to this part of
Lake COunty! How many remember Cervantes?

I was the last Mall Manager at Lakehurst. Since I was managing nearby Regency Mall in Racine, WI while Lakehurst was in its
final stages, I was asked (in a friendly, corporate way, of course) to oversee its operations. My marching orders were: "do
nothing to extend the life of the dying patient". This situation lasted for a few years until Regency Mall was sold to another mall
developer (and I went with it!). January 31st, 2001 was the last day I had keys to the place. Interestingly, a couple of Lakehurst
store employees are now employed in stores at Regency Mall. More interestingly, we never discuss the past! Times change,
people change, lifestyles change and business changes. I've now reached an age where those words make sense - in a good
way! While it was difficult facing the demise (and the demoralization of those long-term Lakehurst Associates), I remain
impressed by the true class shown by everyone involved at its last days. My favorite story to tell is about a long-term store
associate whose ashes were distributed at Lakehurst Mall. To me, that exemplifies the relationships that people develop with
their employers and where they spend significant times of their life. While it was a difficult experience in my professional life, I
am happy that Lakehurst Mall is now a part of my life's memories. Regards, Curt Pruitt SCSM/SCMD Regency Mall, Racine,

I have lived in the area since 1971 so Lakehurst was a big part of my life. As a teenager that was the place to go to get clothes,
get your ears pierced and hang out with friends. I love Carsons, walking in and seeing all the "pretty stuff". We all new the mall
like the back of our hands, you always knew what store to go for anything.

I grew up in Waukegan and would spend many weekends hanging out with my friends there. I especially loved the T-Shirt place.
You could pick your t-shirt and then your Iron on and it would be done in minutes. Later in highschool I worked at Penneys with
my girlfriend Lisa. What a blast meeting people. And who didn't get their ears pierced at Claires. Thanks for the web site and
bringing back fun memories.
