I can still remember my New Kids on the Block days. I bought my all my NKTOB stuff at the "Claires?" And My Mom's ritual every
weekend (and still is, Just different Mall)was shopping at Lakehurst Mall, and a store that had Black and white stripes Venture?.
My Memory is a little blury.

I was in the Navy, first at Great Lakes Recruit Training Center and secondly at the Naval Hospital Corps School from June
1990-December 1990 and have many fond memories of Lakehurst mall. Three of which immediately come to mind: year: 1990
1. My first "real meal" after boot camp was has at a resturant on the Lakehurst Mall grounds....can't remember which restaurant it
was (it was along the lines of a TGI Fridays). My Family came up from Pittsburgh to see me graduate from boot camp, took me
to diner.... and it was the TASTIEST meal I have ever had....or so it seemed! 2. I remember riding the bus from base (US Navy
Hospital Corps School) with My girlfriend Sarah, listening to Camper Van Beethoven's Matchstick Men, entering the mall
through Carsons, and having a tasty dinner at Wimpy's befoes heading out for an evening at the mall. 3. Breaking up with said
girlfriend just before Christmas 1990, and going to see Edward Scissorhands on opening night at the theater on the grounds as
a way to "forget" the breakup----I was only 18 years old....lol

Worked at Whitney's and Carsons in HS. Use to get my haircut at Barbary Coast by Janelle Concan before she owned Octagon
in Gurnee. Great memories hanging out at the mall with friends.

I am so happy to see that this site is catching on - I will never forget Carson's at Lakehurst. I worked there from October of 1997
until it closed in January of 2004. It was my first job, and the only one I had until I started teaching at the junior high in Zion. I met
my husband at Carson's (Joel), and we were married in August of 2003. We still live in the area, and I cried every time we drove
past what was left of the mall. During demolition, Joel stopped at the construction site and asked for a brick from Carson's. I
have it, along with a collage of pictures from my 7 years at Carson's, in the living room of my apartment. May Lakehurst and
Carson's rest in peace. The Wal-mart is an abomination.

A friend of mine that lives in Illinois sent me the website and I perused it for a long time, reminiscing about the good old days.
The Lakehurst Mall will always hold a special place in my heart.

My husband and I went on one of our first dates to the Lakehurst Mall, and 21 years later, we still talk about what a good time we
had that day. We bought our wedding rings there, as well.

My sister and I had our second ear piercing done at Lakehurst Mall, and we had plenty of laughs at Slicers while enjoying their
excellent Long Island Ice Tea. My sister passed away a couple of years ago, but thank goodness for the cherished memories of
the time we spent together at Lakehurst Mall.

Thank you so much for the memorable tribute to Lakehurst Mall, and thank you to my lifelong friend Lori, for sending me this
website and for being such a sweet friend.

I remember Lakehurst....What a great place. I loved going there, as a teen, and later as a mom. It was such a convenient mall.
Lots of stores, comfortable and enjoyable. Always a pleasure to spend the day there, especially Xmas shopping.

I used to go with all my sisters and just had a ball and always walked out with lots of bags. Go to Gurnee Mills, and walk out with
nothing ! Everything there is geared towards teenagers and so busy and confusing all the time that you dont get any service.

I used to bring my daughter,Kristy to Lakehurst when she was just a toddler and she always wanted to throw some coins in the
fountain..(and then try to retrieve them ). Santa, The Easter Bunny, holiday music shows etc, all took place at Lakehurst Mall. I
remember xmas shopping and stopping to listen to the kids from local schools singing xmas carols. Now that was the holidays!

I wish someone would build a mall like that again, we miss it.

Oh Lakehurst..what fond memories! My memories span quite a few years. When they first opened, my friends and I would take
the bus (that also stopped at Belvidere Mall) or our parents would drop us off for the day. I remember getting nearly every color
of cords from Just Pants with my own babysitting money! I also remember saving my money so that I could get everyone in my
family a Christmas present. No small task back then with 5 siblings plus parents, but with $142 I did it! Hot Sams Pretzels,
Athens Gyros french fries, a Wimpy burger (they were there in the beginning), SLicers, Karmelkorn Cheese Corn. I do think that I
am the only one on the planet that didn't like Orange Julius (sorry). The Italian Way restaurant where I was served a salad with a
big giant staple in it from the lettuce box (today that would have been a lawsuit for someone). Buying samples from Fanny May
(yum). Jean Nicole, The Sole Hole and Chas A Stevens where I bought a sweater that l! ooked like a roll of lifesavers (what was
I thinkin'?). I later came to work at Slicers..what a time (with Diane)! The best sandwiches and the hangout for the Navy guys
(besides Aladdin's Castle). After my shift me and friends would sit at the front and people watch (HOW FUN!). Then I worked at
Barbary Coast's front desk and swept up hair & washed towels (got the job thanks to Zina). I remember the security guards,
handelbar mustached Schwab & Dan Ryckman...they were oh soooo cooool (STOP SHOPLIFTER or I'll yell STOP again!).
Remember the UPS guy? He is still around (retired). Very nice person. I later went to work at Denny's across the way, again with
Diane! I worked 3rd and got the Rocky Horror crowd!! I made some great friends there! I shopped there until it was only the Gift
Tree aka Plum Tree and Carson left. Then only Carson's. I miss that whole mall. Here's to progress...sometimes the death of
history!
