My Memory is a little blury.

I'll speak for the hundreds of thousands of Sailors from nearby Great Lakes Naval Base over the years when I say that Lakehurst
Mall was a nice place to get away to when we needed some fun and entertainment. In my five years at Great Lakes, I visited
Lakehurst often for shopping, a movie, a beer or slice of pizza at a small Italian restaurant on the first floor. (Italian Way,
perhaps?)Lots of memories with old friends and shipmates. Sorry to see her go...

i remember this mall so much i used to be such a little kid. i am now 14 yrs. old. i ussually went to the mall every day. now all we
have in waukegan is a mojo mall called belvidere mall where all my immigrant friends hang out. now all we could do in
waukegan is go to wal mart supercenter. it is so gay and boring. then we go to the other boring place called the movies. then we
go bowling. waukegan has gotten so boring since lakehurst left and all the immigrantrs took over belvidere mall. now they are
trying to take over our new wal mart supercenter. hopefully they will make a waukegan mills and make it look like lakehurst mall.

My first job was at Penneys. I remember it well as I worked there through senior year of high school through my college years
and then some. I remember going there with friends all the time. Sam's Pretzels, Claires Boutique, some of the events going on
in the mall and taking my nieces to see Santa. I also remember racing home after work with a very close friend! Many, Many
friends were made there. Remember it was also the only real mall in the Waukegan/Gurnee/North Chicago area so it was very
popular. Sad to see it gone.

Seeing the pictures on the site brought back the emotions and feelings of walking through the store corridors. I worked at
Foxmoor's for years and miss the friends I connected with at that store and the neighboring stores....I wonder what everyone
could be doing now? I remember so many things about Lakehurst Mall...the fashion shows, cheerleading competitions, Scotty
the tree, cheese popcorn, waiting in line for Duran Duran tickets at Camelot, buying hair ribbons at JoAnn Fabrics, buying my
first (and thank God, only) pair of parachute pants at Merry Go 'Round, on and on and on and on.... Sad to see an end of what
once was.

I remember the times that I used to run to Aladins Castle to get to play Mrs. Pac Man. Most of my childhood was going to
Lakehurst mall and chillin out by grabbing a slice of pizza and playing video games. I also remember working at Champs
Sporting Goods right across from the Cinnabon. Lakehurst Mall will always play a huge part of my history. One day I will move
back.

I found this website BY ACCIDENT as I was searching under "Fountain Square of Waukegan" and I want to thank you Nicole for
a beautiful tribute to a mall that was a large part of my childhood and died too soon. I rememebr going to Hot Sams Pretzels a
lot for a pretzle and lemonade. (They had the best around.) I also spent time there with my ittle cousin and her mother in August
of 1992 shortly after the death of my grandmother (she died of kidney failure) when my family convened to discuss burial details.
Once again, thank you for bringing back so many memories. I actually cried as I read through the site and looked at the photos.
It's still heartwrenching to know Lakehurst went down without much of a chance just like the RMS Titanic.

I worked at Marianne's at Lakehurst right when the mall first opened. Me and my friends would also meet up there and hang out.
It was a mall where you could buy anything you wanted, scope out the guys, and eat! What I liked about the mall was that it wasn't
too big and it had a great variety of stores. My favorites were Foxmoor, Marianne's, Jean Nicole, Just Pants. Loved seeing the
pictures on this website, brought back many happy memories!

I loved Lakehurst Mall. It opened the same year my daughter Tia was born. Every Saturday we would go to Lakehurst. Even if we
didn't buy anything we enjoyed just looking around. When we moved to Vegas we were looking for a mall like Lakehurst. It is
really sad it couldn't survive.

I worked as the assisant director of security at Lakehurst for nearly 4 years. I will never forget that good old mall, the good old
smells...(mmmm cinabons, athens gyros and beer brats) and the wonderful people that I encountered. I was there when Gurnee
Mills opened up, and it was sad to watch the death of a great center of activity. I will never forget all the wonderful interaction I
had with the residents of Waukegan and all the US Navy members and families. Thumbs up on this site, it is a great place to
embrace the rich history of such a beloved place.

WOW..The good ol' days of Lakehurst!! I truly miss it so much! I remember back in the days going to Lakehurst and spend
money at Aladdin's Castle then walk over to Camelot Music to look at all the cassette tapes that were out, then take the
escalator down to eat a $3.00 pizza at Pono's. Senior Year at North Chicago High School back in 1994, we were through with
classes at 11:15am and used to drive to Lakehurst and just walk around or go to Fun Harbor, etc. Being here in Atlanta, I truly
miss Canale's Pizza on Lewis Ave. in Waukegan, Ponderosa Chicken Wings on Belvidere Road in Waukegan..and especially
Hillary's Ribs in North Chicago!! Lakehurst, Thanks for the memories and hate to see you gone!!!

When I moved to southeastern Wisconsin in 1979, Lakehurst was THE mall for the area. My mom and I still talk about how we
miss Wieboldt's and the Globe. I have so many happy memories of shopping there with my family and my friends, and later my
fiance. This site brought back a lot of them. Thanks for the time machine.
