I loved Lakehurst Mall and miss it terribly. It was so convenient and people were friendly. I got my first pup at the pet store there. I
hate having to go to Gurnee Mills and Vernon Hills to shop now. It just isn't the same. This site is awesome and brings back
great memories. Thanks to those who put this together. Thanks for the memories. Judy

My hang out? Merle Norman. What was a girl to do without her makeup and getting her nails done. We were known as the Merle
Norman girls, those of you that are reading this know exactly who I am talking about. (smile) Remember our SPECIALTY
DRINKS?

My husband who was an electrcian worked at Lakehurst mall when they were building it. Thru friendships he made, we got our
first puppy "Bear". Also had loads of fun doing "power shopping" at Carson's during lunch break at Abbott's. You'd be surprised
what you could buy in an hour!!

I must have a thousand stories on this mall.I have to say it was a very sad day when Lakehurst Mall closed for good.I remember I
used to take the bus from Zion to the mall in the mid 80's,and I could easily spend 8 hours with my buddies walking around and
hanging out.I used to love to go to the ITALIAN WAY resturaunt. They had the best food. Also a good friend of mine,Kim used to
work at that resturant. When I needed shoes I would go to the footlocker store, man I loved that store.Remember the MERRY GO
ROUND STORE,and CHESS KING? Well I just wanted to share a few words. They may have tore down this great mall, but no
one could ever erase all those great memories that I will always keep in my mind.

Thank you Lakehurst Mall, you will be greatly missed by me and countless others :)

My best and I carved our initals in a tree in the summer of 1979 outside the main entrance by that old shoe repair shop. They
stood until the mall was demolished. I'll always remember Slicers, the place my girlfriend wanted to go. We ordered the same
meal (lame? yes) but delicious, a beef sandwich, a large pepsi and one of their famous pickles. Orange Julius made some of
the best fries! To bad the mall couldn't survive. Gurnee Mills sucks!!

I remember many occassions at Lakehurst Mall. My brother and I would spend tons of quarters at Aladdin's Castle, then finish
the afternoon off by having a gyro sandwich at Athen's. My family would also enjoy dinner at Italian Way. My friends and I spend
many hours checking out girls there. Lakehurst Mall may be gone but for us Lake County residents, It will always have a special
place in all of our hearts!

1) Athens Gyros - To this day I have not found a better gyro or steak sandwich. 2) Carson's PA would would make an annoying
'ping' sound before each announcment. 3) One could always score weed outside of Joker's Wild. 4) Aladdin’s Castle was
frightening. Partly because I wasn't supposed to be there, but mainly because it was so dark and all the kids seemed big and
dangerous.

I grew up in this mall. My grandma worked there for many years. I remember going there with her as a small child to see the
talking christmas tree at Carson's, then hanging out there through high school at Aladins Castle, my friends and I would walk
from Warren High School, just to all hang out. Such a shame its gone.

I had my first real job at Helen Gallagher's Gifts while in High School. It was a great place to hang out, Black lights, flourescent
posters, and of course posters of Farrah Fawcet and the rest of the Angels. I lived on Hot Pretzels from Hot Sams and
sandwiches from Slicers. Cervantes was a standard place to take a date for dinner when you took her to a dance. I also worked
at Jewel during summers when I came home from college and I had plenty of "Late Night" breakfasts at Golden Bear. Ironic how
Lakehurst was the death of the stores in Downtown Waukegan, then when Hawthorne Mall in Vernon Hills came, so began the
decline of Lakehurst, with Gurnee Mills delivering the final blow.

I remember taking my little brother Joey to the mall and he decided he would conquer walking UP the DOWN escalator and he
actually made it up. I also remember going to the mall as a fun outing with my friends, and the time i finally convinced my mother,
in her 40's at the time, to get her ears pierced at Clair's.
