Lakehurst at Christmastime in the 1970s. The band is playing beneath the large silver mobile sculpture
that was the centerpiece of Lakehurst Mall. Specially designed for $20,000, the shining sculpture
epitomized the mall's flashy 70s era decor and ironically survived the interior remodeling in 1979, keeping
its post from the ceiling until the mall was demolished in 2004.
Here is Lakehurst Mall's center
court in the 1970s, showing its
original styling of vivd colors and
reflective adornments.
This is the same view of center
court a decade later, in the
1980s. The mall's interior
underwent a remodeling in
1979 to create a more subdued
environment, including the
addition of soft toned carpeting
and the installation of two new
square fountains to accompany
the existing circular fountain.
